Students Venture into Shenzhen’s Green Frontier
On 30th April 2025, about 140 Primary 4-6 students from our school crossed the border for an eye-opening, one-day study tour to Shenzhen, China. Designed to deepen understanding of nature conservation and smart farming in the Greater Bay Area, the excursion blended ecology, technology and cultural exchange in equal measure.
The day began in the lush grounds of Fairy Lake Botanical Garden. Guided by local conservationists, students examined plant species and learned how Shenzhen balances rapid urban growth with biodiversity protection.
The group also visited an organic farming plantation on the city’s outskirts. Here, agronomists demonstrated IoT-controlled greenhouses, solar-powered irrigation and AI pest-monitoring drones. Pupils tried their hand at seeding plants, linking textbook science to real-world innovation.
Throughout the tour, students compared Hong Kong’s and Shenzhen’s environmental policies and discussed how regional cooperation can advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. They were especially inspired by the integration of advanced technology with traditional farming wisdom—proof that green development and modern living can go hand in hand.
The trip not only broadened horizons but also reinforced our mission to cultivate responsible global citizens.
